Why this year’s resource for prom fashion might be the Athens-Clarke County Library – Online Athens

Students make their selections at the Athens-Clarke County Library's 2020 "Bling Your Prom" event.

The idea of going out to buy an expensive prom dress to only to wear it once might be a time-honored tradition, but in today’s world of “vintage” fashion trends, buying second-hand and presenting your own new outfit feels like an exciting alternative, especially when the price is right.

On Feb. 18-19, the Athens-Clarke County Library will be hosting its fourth “Bling Your Prom” event, where local teens can come to the library and take home one free outfit (dress or suit) plus accessories, including shoes, ties and jewelry. Donations are currently being accepted during regular library hours.

The library’s Teen Services Regional Coordinator Jen Schumann told the Banner-Herald that three of the building’s conference rooms will be used to make room for clothing racks, tables and changing rooms, along with a “selfie booth” where shoppers can try out their new looks.
